Class Descriptions

movement-15The Twirling Tigers; Creative Movement for 3 and 4 year-olds.  An introduction to basic creative movement concepts taught in a nurturing, creative and fun environment. A good first class for young movers!

The Leap Frogs; Creative Movement for 5 and 6 year-olds. We will explore creative movement concepts alone and as a group. Children will build physical skills, musicality and spatial awareness while having fun dancing together!

The Flying Kangaroos; Dance for 7 – 12 year-olds.  In this physically rigorous while still incredibly silly and fun class kids will

  • Learn body-based mindfulness techniques
  • Move without stopping until their hearts are pounding.
  • learn to dance with a partner and group including taking and giving weight
  • Create and learn dance combinations, developing muscle memory and musicality
  • Use movement as a way to express concepts and emotions.
  • And, of course dance all out, however they want, because it just feels so good!

Dance with your Toddler!  A class for walking toddlers and their grown-ups.  This class will give you and your toddler the chance to breathe, stretch and move in ways you’ve never imagined!  movement-30

Siblings are welcome to join this class, as are three-year-old’s who would prefer to dance with their grown-up!

All classes begin with stretching and warm-up exercises followed by guided improvisation using the basic steps: walking, running, galloping, hopping, rolling, crawling, turning, sliding and jumping.  Warm ups are followed with the introduction of a movement concept (For example: Shape, Level, or Rhythm).  Movement concepts are explored in large and small groups as well as through solo dances.  Classes for younger students use songs, props and stories to engage and explore movement concepts. Classes for older students incorporate contemporary dance technique and set choreography. All classes focus on the creation of improvisational dances.  Classes end with a guided relaxation.
